Ronald Nelson

FRANKLIN FURNACE-Ronald Nelson, 74, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Harbor Healthcare of Ironton. Ronald was born January 2, 1947 in Portsmouth, to the late David Elmer Nelson and Helen Morgan Nelson Sally. He was retired from Armco Steel/AK Steel, as an overhead crane operator; he is a member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church and he is an Army veteran of the Korean War. Ronald founded and coached the Green Pee-Wee football program, he liked to watch kids play ball; he loved to travel and enjoyed watching football on TV with Tim. He also played softball in the Portsmouth City Softball League. In addition to his parents, Ronald is preceded in death by a son, Ronald Wayne Nelson and his in-laws, Ronald and Lucille Hughes. Ronald is survived by his wife, Mary Christine Hughes Nelson; a son, Timothy Nelson of Reynoldsburg, OH; a brother, David Nelson, (Barbara) of Mt. Airy, NC; a sister, Pamela Nelson Wasmundt, (Robert) of Orlando, FL; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial for Ronald will be 3:00 pm Friday, May 14, 2021 at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church with Fr Joseph Yokum officiating. Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelesburg. Condolences to the family may be made at www.harrison-pyles.com.
