SCIOTOVILLE-Betty Newland Conley passed away peacefully in her home October 14, 2021. She was 96 years old. She was the daughter of Dale and Martha Newland of Lima, Ohio. Betty was an English teacher at East High School for over 20 years, a member of the Ohio State Teachers’ Retirement Association, the NEA (National Education Association), and NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English). With a BS from Ohio University in Athens, majoring in Speech and Communication, Betty was well known as a debate champion for both her high school and collegiate teams. She loved reading and her pets. Preceded in death by her husband, Earl O. Conley, Betty has two surviving children, Christopher A. Conley (Susan) of Ashland, Kentucky and Patricia Conley Spradlin (Rod) of Wheelersburg. She was most proud of her three grandchildren whom she loved very much, Andrew (Drew) Spradlin (Gabi), Raleigh NC, Eric Conley (Claire), Union, Kentucky, and Natalie Conley Gray (Spencer), Lexington, Kentucky. The family would also like to thank Rhonda Church and Kevin Fannin for their years of help and her special team of caregivers during her last days. Services will be held at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Monday, October 18, 2021. Visitation is at 1 pm and the funeral is at 2 pm. Social distancing and masks at the funeral home will be appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty’s name to SOMC Hospice, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
