Nancy Ellen BarnesNancy Ellen Barnes

WHEELERSBURG-Nancy Ellen Barnes of Wheelersburg was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on May 5, 1942 and went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. Nancy was the daughter of Mitchel and Ruth Jeanette (Bobst) Conley of Wheelersburg, Ohio who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Fred M. Blair and her second husband, Larry T. Barnes on December 21, 2012 and the death of her only son, Kenneth “Kenny” A. Barnes on September 5, 2013. Nancy is survived by her grandson, Joshua “Josh” A. Barnes and four great grandchildren, Breanna M. Malone; twins, Joseph A. Barnes and Justin A. Barnes and Keyanna Barnes. Nancy was born and raised in the Methodist faith and was a lifelong member of Wheelersburg Methodist Church, where she participated in many Church activities. However, her lifelong duty chosen by our Lord was to raise children, which she did by raising her son, Kenny Barnes, her grandson, Josh Barnes and her beloved twin great grandsons, Justin and Joe Barnes, who were by her side with other family members at the time of her death. Nancy went all the way through Wheelersburg schools and graduated in the class of 1960. During her school days she took ballroom dancing lessons with a group of her classmates. She also took tap and gymnastics during her younger years. She was also a member of the Wheelersburg Marching Band and in her senior year was chosen Football Homecoming Queen. Nancy was a self-taught artist with her pictures hanging on the walls of her home and also in the homes of many family members and friends. She also enjoyed the hobby of scrapbooking with her friends. Nancy went to work after High School, working at Marting’s in Portsmouth at Christmas time, later going to work at the Girl Scout office and finally at General Telephone Company where she made her career holding various positions, retiring in 1992 when the company offices were moved to Marion, Ohio. At the time of her retirement, she held the position of Facility Location Assigner and was raising her grandson and would later go on to raise her beloved twin great grandsons. Nancy leaves her family with the knowledge that they were unconditionally loved and the comfort in knowing that she is finally at rest with her Lord.

Rev. Randy Doyle

God bless your family. I remember Nancy, Larry, Kenny and Josh. The Barns family was very much a part of my childhood. It seems like a million years ago that my dad, Wendell would pick me up at home and I would ride with him as he took his truck in for the night. Many of those guys are no longer around. I miss them. Love and prayers, Rev. Randy Doyle
