Merle Kay Hicks

HILLSBORO-Merle Kay Hicks, 90, of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe, OH. Merle was born December 12, 1932 in Scioto County to the late William Hicks and Hilda Florence Shump Wheeler. Merle was a veteran of the Marine Corp and served during the Korean War. He was employed as an operator for Coyne’s Textile Service. In addition to his parents, Merle was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Louise McCoy Hicks, December 22, 2020, whom he married April 6, 1957. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, James Wheeler; two sons, Christopher Zane Hicks and Stephen Jay Hicks; and a brother, Earl Hicks. Merle is survived by two sons, Merle Keith Hicks Jr. (Irma) and James Randall Hicks (Rebecca); a daughter, Sheryl Lambert and eight grandchildren.

Services for Merle will be 11:00 am Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Pastor Chris Oiler Officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday 10:00 am until the 11:00 am service. Military Rites for Merle will be provided by American Legion James Dickey Post #23.
