Janet Marcia Rawlins, age 86

Janet Marcia Rawlins was born March 16, 1938, in Ironton, Ohio. She grew up in Coal Grove, Ohio. She went to be with Jesus on July 21, 2024, at 12:56 p.m. She left this world surrounded by her family, to be reunited in heaven with her parents, Clifford Rawlins and Mary Adkins Rawlins, her daughter, Kim Clevenger, her great-granddaughter, Shiloh Thomas, her sister, Linda Sanders, her nephew, Danny Miller, and her lifelong friend, Kathryn Gibbs. She is survived by five children: Gina (Dave) Smith, Kelli (Mark) Ramsey, Joe Neal, Bobbilou (James) Nottingham, and Dana (Dave) Beck. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Jennifer, Ashley, Nikki, Jessie, Jan, Kayla, Jordan, Terra, Zaide, Eli, Gabe, Quin, and Josi, as well as seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, too numerous to name, but she loved them all. She is also survived by two nephews and a niece: Nick Miller, Shawn Miller, and Melinda Sanders, as well as her best friend, Nadene McKnight. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Michelle, her caregiver and friend.

In addition to being a mother, Janet was a poet, an author, an artist, an actress, a musician, and she also had a great love for sculpting, painting, gardening, and photography. She appeared in two plays and has a published book on the shelves in the Lawrence County, Ohio public library. She was also a member, and Queen Mother, of a local Red Hat Society. Janet was never without her little red camera. In her later years, when she could not leave her home often, she frequently used her little red camera to take pictures of our pictures, so that she had her own copies to keep. Janet loved all animals and could never turn away a stray. She cared for many abandoned cats and their kittens throughout her lifetime.

Visitation will be held at the Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Ohio from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Her funeral service will take place at noon on Thursday, July 25, 2024, with visitation for one hour prior to the start of the service. Interment to follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to Sierra’s Haven for New & Used Pets.
