Chad Eric MayChad May

June 30, 1974 — March 24, 2025

Chad Eric May, 50, of Wheelersburg, Ohio passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 30, 1974, in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late William “Bill” May and Sue Ann May. Chad was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was known for his kindness, humor, unwavering devotion to his family, and love for Wheelersburg football. Chad graduated from Wheelersburg High School in 1993. He was employed as an operations manager for Schwan’s Food Company for 24 years and then at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant as a work control planner for five years.

Chad was happiest when spending time with his family and friends, taking country back road drives, and coaching Wheelersburg football. His passion for his community and football was evident in his 25-year coaching career for the Wheelersburg Football Program. Known for his leadership, dedication, and the impact he had on countless young athletes, Coach May was more than just a coach — he was a source of encouragement for generations of players that extends far beyond the field. After Friday night football, you could find Chad worshipping as a faithful member of Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene on Sundays.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Mollie Cooper May whom he married October 19, 2002 in Huntington, West Virginia; his children, Nathan May and Peyton May; his mother Sue Arthur May; his siblings, Scott (Christi) May, Kim (Dan) Horner; his sister in law, Toby (Rick) Petty; his nieces and nephews, Kyle (Vanessa) Horner, Cassidy (Wade) Martin, Austin (Tori) May, Luke May, Chase Petty, six great nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends who loved him dearly.

A celebration of Chad’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 28th at Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Matt Hancock officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park.

The family will receive friends and family from 5-8 PM Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene in Wheelersburg and 1 hour, at the church, before the 11:00 AM service on Friday. Please feel free to wear orange and black.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Chad’s honor to Wheelersburg Football or Wheelersburg Softball. Condolences to the family may be made at www.harrison-pyles.com.

Sending my deepest condolences to Chad’s family and friends. Chad and I never connected after high school even though he lived on my street after I moved away on Patton Place. He was always such a great leader and a spark of hope against the status quo of jocks that was just able to get along with everyone. Never disrespected others but was there to command respect for everyone. Such a class act Chad always was. He was funny, kind, and was always so smart. He had it all: street smarts, books smarts, and pure charm. An attest to his upbringing. He was a magnet. And we all wanted to be around him. He will be missed so much. My deepest sympathies. You scored a touchdown for so many.
