Carroll Edward “Ed” Ruggles
WHEELERSBURG-Carroll Edward “Ed” Ruggles, 88, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at SOMC in Portsmouth. Ed was born December 1, 1934 in Wheelersburg to the late Charles R. Ruggles and Verla Katherine Wright Ruggles. Ed was a proud Air Force Veteran of the Korean War Era. He was a member of Local 105 and worked as a Boilermaker and he was a member of Bonser Run Christian Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Dee Edwards Ruggles November 24, 1999, whom he married May 25, 1956. Also preceding him in death was an infant daughter, Cheryl Edena Ruggles; five brothers, Howard Hill, Harold Ruggles, Gerald Ruggles, Leslie Ruggles and Gale Ruggles and a sister, Helen Hanes. Ed is survived by three sons, Edward Dale “Shorty” Ruggles (Cindy), Kenny Ruggles (Charmion) and William Dee “Willie” Ruggles (Rose); a brother, Charles David Ruggles; three sisters, Jean Fritz, Betty Cusina and Marlene Eltzroth; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren and a special friend Lana Fisher.
Services for Ed will be 11:00 am Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Danny Deck officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, April 26, 2023 and one hour before the 11:00 am service on Thursday. Military Rites for Ed will be provided by American Legion James Dickey Post #23. The family requests in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions be made in Ed’s name to SOMC Hospice.
