Mary Christine Nelson

FRANKLIN FURNACE-Mary Christine Nelson, 83, of Franklin Furnace passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at her home. Mary was born December 25, 1940 in Franklin Furnace to the late Ronald Hughes and Lucille Otworth Hughes. Mary had a Master’s degree and taught at Green Local Schools for 39 years, retiring May 25, 2010. She is a member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Nelson, May 9, 2021 whom she married May 8, 1979. She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Ronnie Nelson; a brother-in-law, Harold "Tuck" Montavon; Roger Otworth and two infant brothers, Dale and Mark: her Beagle and her black cat. Mary is survived by a brother, Michael (Julie) Hughes; two sisters, Phyllis Montavon and Jane Crisp; a stepson, Tim Nelson; many nieces and nephews, Beth (Kevin)Monroe, Abby Hughes, Brooke (Terrell) Allen, Amy Hughes (Ashlie Frump), Kim (Breeze) Borne, Marylee Crisp, Jason (Jewell) Crisp, Andy (Iris) Montavon, Darrell (Beth) Montavon. Great nieces and nephews: Gage, Hannah, Sienna, Hayven Ryan, Salem, CJ, Daysha, Kierston, Erin, Emma, Katelyn, Christian, AJ and Mia. A great-great nephew Zyair and a great-great niece Kyah. A special thank you to Jody Hampton and Amanda Waughtel. Mary loved to watch the kids play ball. Loved to travel and spend time with family. Mary was supportive and generous, slipping us cash after every game.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Wednesday, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm with recitation of the rosary at 12:30 PM.
