Helen Salyers
1947 - 2024

Helen “Jeanie” (Dyer) Salyers, 76, of Franklin Furnace, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, February 07, 2024.

She was born October 9th, 1947 to the late Earl and Velma Dyer. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by a brother, Dallas Dyer, and her high school sweetheart and husband of 55 years, William “Ralph” Salyers.

Jeanie is survived by her daughter Wendy Salyers, with her children Tanner (Randi) Salyers of Mount Vernon, Ohio and Heaven (Richie) Bowman of Franklin Furnace; and her son Shane (Tara) Salyers, of Ironton, with their children Cameron, Gage, and Lydia Salyers. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Wren Rosalie Salyers and Aryeh Rain Bowman, whom she cherished and in turn, cherished her.

Jeanie is also survived by a brother, Earl Junior Dyer of Franklin Furnace along with many sisters-in-law and their husbands, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends who were like family.

Jeanie was a 1965 graduate of Green High School and was voted “most athletic.” She had a passion for figure skating, and we’ve been told by others that if she had the chance, she would’ve been a champion. We believe it.

Throughout the course of her life she worked various jobs. From the Williams Shoe Company, to Aristech, and even a stint as a housekeeper at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Her favorite job however was being our Mom and Mamaw, and she was phenomenal at it!

She was famous for her chicken and noodles, her sweet potatoes, her no-bake cookies, and honestly, anything she put her hand to in the kitchen. Jeanie Salyers could cook better than you. Deal with it.

She loved lemon ice cups from the Schwann’s truck and eating chopped pecans by the spoonful. She thought Kevin Nealon was hilarious and loved to laugh. She had a wonderful singing voice and enjoyed gospel music and the occasional old-time rock and roll song that would take us all by surprise (Jeanie could “mashed potato,” don’t let her fool you.)

She loved reading her Bible, learning about Israel, and was so, so ready to meet Jesus that it seems silly that any of us are sad, because Lord knows she isn’t.

She also got to stick around long enough for the government to admit that aliens are real and then rub that one in our faces. Touché, Mamaw.

She was the best mom and the best Mamaw and we can’t wait to see her and Papaw again.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to consider making contributions in Jeanie’s memory to the William Ralph Salyers Legacy Scholarship Fund through the Scioto Foundation. Graveside services for friends and family will be held at noon at Haverhill Cemetery on Saturday, February 10th with Rev. Andy Ramey officiating. Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg was entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences to the family may be made at www.harrison-pyles.com.
