1940 - 2024
John Roger Thomas, 83, of Wheelersburg, passed away at Concord Convalescent Facility on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. John was born on December 10, 1940 in Franklin Furnace. He was the son of the late Paul A. and Mary Jane Valentine Thomas. He was a diesel mechanic for many years. John loved raising a garden. He also loved his Pine Grove Church family and was sad when he was not able to attend church.
John is survived by daughters Kathy Dyer of Gahanna, Jackie English of Cincinnati, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Paul Thomas of Columbus, Robert Thomas of Wheelersburg, Darrell (Jan) Thomas of Franklin Furnace and sisters Hazel (Howard) Brown of Franklin Furnace, Evelyn (Michael) Blevins of Franklin Furnace and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Brian Thomas of Columbus, a brother Richard Creed Thomas of Wheelersburg and sisters Irene Kerns of Portsmouth, Annabelle Hacker of Wheelersburg, Donna Stapleton of Minford, Charlotte Carver of Franklin Furnace, Barbara Spriggs of Portsmouth and infant siblings Andy and Elnora.
The family will meet at 10:00 am and will receive friends at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 3rd at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg. Funeral service will follow the visitation at 12:00 with Pastor Kelley Stapleton officiating. John will be laid to rest at Junior Furnace Cemetery in Franklin Furnace following the funeral service.
