Ophel Alvin Maggard, 71, of Wheelersburg, passed away Friday, December 12, 2025. He was born January 19, 1954 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Oral Patton Maggard and Delphia Bell Adkins Maggard. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Dale Maggard and Michael Ray Maggard; and sisters, Beth Ann Maggard and Connie Sue Phipps. Ophel is survived by his mother, Delphia Maggard, and siblings: Charles Steven (Carolee) Maggard, Sherri (Tim) Moffatt, and family, Darryl Phipps and Kathy Maggard. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins will also miss him. Ophel graduated from Wheelersburg High School. He was a humble and kind-hearted man who found joy in music, classic films, and the simple beauty of everyday moments. Well known as the family historian, he lovingly preserved memories, photographs, and milestones, ensuring stories would never be lost. A devoted helper, and friend, he had a loving heart and a passion for the arts. He had a special talent for drawing, capturing people, places, and moments with a quiet artistry that reflected the way he saw the world. Most of all, he treasured time with family, and it is in those shared moments that his gentle spirit will be remembered. A funeral service will be 1:00pm, Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home, 11623 Gallia Pike, Wheelersburg, OH with Pastor Blaine Etterling officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Garden. Visitation will be 11:00am until the time of the service, at the funeral home.

So sorry to see this on Facebook. Ophel and I graduated from the Burg in 1972. He was my ‘date’ for junior prom, great memories of school days and we also knew his family as we all grew up together and went to his dad’s church in Garden City. Good memories. Such a great soul and he will be missed! RIP Ophel.
